MOET&CHANDON FOR VALENTINES DAY

Love is in the air! Moët & Chandon noticed that too.

The champagne maker has teamed up with renowned French typography artist Alexis Taieb aka Tyrsa to create a romance filled limited edition Moët Impérial Rosé release named “Link Your Love Rose.” Taking inspiration from the iconic black-tie of the Moët bottle, Tysra created a special black-tie ribbon-like lettering for thepackaging. Moët has featured the new lettering across a range of Imperial Rosé gift packs that includes a gift box with two champagne glasses and a 750 ml bottle of Moët Impérial Rosé priced at €250. From the very little information available it seems this is a special limited edition only for the French market.

Cuvée Carbon Champagne by The House of Devavry

Champagne House Devavry in Champillon (at a stone throw from the Abbey of Hautvillers where Dom Perignon created champagne )has been making champagne for five generations, producing half a dozen wines on their ten-hectare property using traditional methods. The latest product from this champagne house is Cuvée Carbon, produced by Alexandre Méa, the youngest of the family. This perfectly selected mix of the greatest chardonnay and pinot noir grapes from Cotes de Blancs and the Marne Valley comes in special bottle, hand-made out of pure carbon (it took over six days), to brings an undeniable elegance to the delicacy of the beverage.

The combination of fine selected grapes gives the wine delicacy and finesse, subtlety, purity and a smooth mouth-feel. From the initial aromas of lemon zest and juicy fruit, the taste is sweet and floral with notes of honey which become creamier with spicy fragrances. The palate is lively, structured and rigorous with a dynamic effervescence.
Cuvée Carbon is the haute Couture of the winery, and is available in large format bottles (1.5 liters, 6 liters and 15 liters): Magnum, Methuselah and Nebuchadnezzar. The prices range from 2100 Euro ($2,900) for one magnum to whopping 34.900 Euro ($48,000) for 15 liters Nebuchadnezzar. Cuvée Carbon is known as the “King of wines and the wine of kings! ” Prince Albert of Monaco officially supported Cuvée Carbon during its launch.

THE WORLD’S FIRST SQUARE WINE BOTTLE

California producer Truett-Hurst has launched the world’s first range of wines in square bottles and available in three varieties: Russian River Valley Chardonnay, Paso Robles Cabernet and a red blend.

Modeled on classic spirit bottles, design firm Stranger and Stranger created the ornate bottles with embossing and vintage graphics. The Dry Creek Valley wine producer felt a change was in order and citied several benefits like taking up less space; the bottles won’t roll away if placed on their sides and can be repurposed as olive oil dispensers or vases. They also become easy to store with no real need of a wine rack but maybe just some book-ends. If the wine industry turned over to square instead of round bottles we’d save almost a million trees in outer cardboard boxes alone.

According to Truett-Hurt winemaker Virginia Marie Lambrix, introducing an alternative package is tricky. ‘The wine inside has to over-deliver and create a memorable impression for the consumer.’
Its outward appearance aside, the three wines were a huge smash when Truett-Hurst and Total Wine & More featured them in a sneak preview prior to the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles in late September.
